The American Camp Association welcomes proposals and unsolicited manuscripts of educational interest to the camp and youth development communities. Authors and potential authors are asked to carefully review these guidelines when submitting material for consideration. Healthy Learning, the publisher partner of the American Camp Association, will review each submission as part of the process to achieve the best possible educational products for the youth development audience.
Proposals should identify the nature of the project, the intended audience, the suggested length, and the expected date of completion.
Book Proposals
A proposal for a book project should be accompanied by a cover letter, a proposal between 250-500 words, a working outline, and a sample chapter. In addition, the author should include a resume featuring his/her educational and professional experience, as well as any publication history.
Manuscripts
Manuscripts will be accepted for consideration and should be accompanied by a cover letter and a proposal between 250-500 words. In addition, the author should include a resume with his/her educational and professional experience, as well as any publication history.
DVD Projects
Healthy Learning will consider proposals for DVD projects on camp and youth development topics. Submission should include a 250-500 word proposal, the presenter’s resume with educational and professional experience, including any on-camera experience. Author generated CD-ROM or DVD-format videos will be accepted for consideration or as support for the proposal.
The Process
The editors at Healthy Learning, in consultation with the American Camp Association, will determine the suitability and viability of an author’s proposal. Due to the volume of submissions, the response time averages four months. Inquiries in the interim should be directed to Samantha Howser. All manuscripts remain the property of the author, and will be returned only if accompanied by a suitable, self-addressed, postage-paid mailer.
